Nearly every aspect of life is changing due to technology, and somewhere along the line, the judicial system is being affected. As per a recent report by National Judicial Data Grid, around 4.7 crore cases are pending across India. With the help of Artificial Intelligence, the clogged state of the Indian judiciary could be much lowered. Virtual reality could provide a live experience of the courtroom, enabling young minds to have a firsthand experience of being a prosecutor, defense counsel, judge, and witness at the same time on one platform. Fintech has ensured that even the smallest of transactions gets digitally recorded thus ensuring transparency and electronic evidence. However, there are certain challenges that technology brings. With the advent of technology and AI, the world has witnessed serious human rights violations. Without regulation or accountability, technology increasingly intrudes individual’s life and personal liberty. From fostering discrimination to engaging in intrusive surveillance, technology has proven to be a threat to equal protection, economic rights, and fundamental liberties.
Through this colloquium, we at Maharashtra National Law University, Mumbai in association with Aegis School of Data Science and Cyber Security, Mumbai strives to enable a discourse that invites perspectives from multitudes so that a comprehensive way forward can prevail. We take this opportunity to provide a platform for intellectual discourse about the possible challenges in the area of Law and Technology and to explore suggestions to overcome these problems. Our ultimate endeavor is to make the colloquium a means of prospective research and policy making
