This College has made a modest beginning as Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Auto Academy in the year 1980 at Auto nagar, subsequently it was upgraded as Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Government Polytechnic in the year 1984 and it functioned in Auto Nagar for a period of 10 years i.e. upto 1994. Later it was shifted to Hayathnagar in Canara Bank premises in 1994 and functioned upto 1998 and permanent buildings were constructed in the year 1999 and the college was shifted into it on 02.01.1999 which is close to Ramoji Film City. Initially only 03 (Three) branches of study were offered namely Diploma in Architectural Assistantship, Diploma in Automobile Engineering, Diploma in Computer and Commercial Practice with an intake of 40 each upto 2007-08. Later the intake was enhanced from 40 to 60 from the academic year 2008-09 and another course namely Diploma in Computer Engineering was also introduced in this Institution in addition to the other 03 courses.
